The citrus fruit stamp

The Jewish resettlement of the Land of Israel saw an enormous development in citrus growing, particularly after the "Shamouti" was discovered. This cultivar is considered one of the best oranges in the world, which, under the trade-name of "Jaffa, made Israel famous for its oranges throughout the world. In order to satisfy the demand, new cultivars have been developed in Israel, and others have been introduced from abroad and adapted to Israel's climate.

The Sweety, which looks like a grapefruit but is much sweeter, is an American cultivar which was developed in Israel for commercial purposes. Later it was followed in other countries.

The Kumquat (which is also known as the Chinese Orange) is like a small orange which is eaten with its peel and is used in the glace fruit industry.

In the last fifteen years, the Agricultural Research Organization, with the help of the government and Israeli farmers, has made great efforts to breed new cultivars, such as the Vinola, the Seedless Lemon and easy peeler cultivars including the Shani, the Admoni, the Or and the Mor. They have all improved in taste and many of these cultivars are now seedless. The development of new cultivars continues apace.

Heron I
Unmanned aerial vehicle, 1994
This unmanned aerial vehicle was manufactured in Israel, a forerunner in the development and diverse operational use of such devices. The Heron I serves the IDF Air Force as well as other air forces around the world. This aircraft is used for intelligence, relaying and special tasks and it has logged immense numbers of operational flight hours.

Byzantine Capital - 6th Century C.E.

The capital of a column ornamented with a luxuriant floral style on its first section will be of Corinthian origin. The stonework of light grey stone is magnificent and identical to capitals of this kind found in Moslem religious buildings on the Temple Mount. The capital shown on this stamp was, in fact, found in excavations at the foot of the Temple Mount and is, today, kept in the courtyard of the Moslem Museum on the Mount. On the top section of this capital there is a cross inside a circle. When they used the capitals in their own religious buildings, the Moslems removed such crosses: but these capitals were to be used in churches of the Byzantine period, particularly in the 6th century CE.
